Wedding Celebrant FAQs
Planning a wedding ceremony that feels like you
Choosing a wedding celebrant is about more than finding someone to perform the legal formalities. It's about finding someone who understands your relationship, puts you at ease and helps you create a ceremony that feels meaningful, personal and genuinely yours.
A wedding is a celebration of your relationship, but it's also an opportunity to pause and think about the marriage you're building together. Whether you're planning a big wedding, an intimate celebration or something beautifully simple, I'm here to help you create a ceremony that reflects who you are as a couple.
Here are some of the most common questions couples ask when looking for a wedding celebrant.

1.How do we choose the right wedding celebrant in Melbourne?
Choose a celebrant whose personality, approach and ceremony style feel right for you as a couple. Look at their reviews, watch videos of their ceremonies, read examples of their work and consider how comfortable you feel talking to them.
Your celebrant will play a significant role in shaping the atmosphere of your wedding ceremony.
You want someone who listens, understands your relationship, communicates clearly and can guide you through the process with confidence.
I believe your ceremony should feel like the two of you. Whether that's relaxed and funny, heartfelt and romantic, or a combination of all three. The best place to start is a conversation about what matters most to you.
2. What makes a personalised wedding ceremony different from a traditional ceremony?
A personalised wedding ceremony is created around your relationship rather than following a generic script. It reflects your story, shared values, personalities, humour and the promises you're making to each other.
This might include stories about how you met, the quirks that make your relationship unique, meaningful readings, personal vows or rituals that reflect your values.
My approach is to get to know you as a couple and create a ceremony that feels authentic rather than something you've simply watched at someone else's wedding. The goal is for your guests to recognise you in the ceremony and for you to feel genuinely connected to the moment.
3. How much does a wedding celebrant cost in Melbourne?
Wedding celebrant prices in Melbourne vary depending on the celebrant's experience, the type of ceremony, travel requirements and the level of personalisation and support included. Prices in Victoria can range between $500- 4000+ Aud.
When comparing celebrant quotes, look beyond the price and check what's included. Consider the initial consultations, ceremony writing, legal paperwork, vow guidance, rehearsal, travel, ceremony equipment and support provided before the wedding day.
I recommend choosing a celebrant whose approach and service suit your priorities and budget. Your ceremony sets the tone for the rest of your wedding day, so it's worth understanding the value of the experience you're booking.
For my current celebrant packages and pricing, please get in touch or visit my pricing page. My prices value the experience and unique skills I bring to this work.
4. What types of wedding ceremonies can a celebrant perform?
Depending on the celebrant's services, options can include a fully personalised wedding ceremony, an intimate wedding, a small or registry-style ceremony, an elopement or a relaxed outdoor wedding.
The right format depends on your guest list, venue, budget and the experience you want to create.
Some couples want a ceremony filled with stories, laughter and personal vows. Others want something short, meaningful and uncomplicated. A good celebrant will help you work out what suits you rather than forcing you into a one-size-fits-all format.

5. How long should a wedding ceremony be?
A personalised wedding ceremony commonly takes around 20–30 minutes, although a shorter or longer ceremony may suit your plans better. I believe 25 mins is the perfect pace where ceremony is meaningful and guests remain engaged
The length depends on the legal wording, personal vows, readings, cultural traditions, rituals and the amount of storytelling you want to include.
A meaningful ceremony doesn't need to be long. It needs to feel considered, engaging and true to your relationship. I'll help you find the right balance so your ceremony feels substantial without dragging on.
6. Can you help us write our wedding vows?
Yes. Your vows don't need to sound like a poem, a movie script or something you've copied from the internet. They should sound like you.
I can help you understand what makes personal vows meaningful, find a structure that works, identify the promises you want to make and express them in your own words.
Whether you want vows that are romantic, funny, heartfelt or a little of everything, the aim is to help you speak honestly without feeling overwhelmed by a blank page.
If writing your own vows feels intimidating, don't worry. We'll work through it together.
7. What if one of us is shy or uncomfortable speaking in front of people?
That's completely okay. You don't need to be a confident public speaker to have a beautiful wedding ceremony.
Your celebrant should help you feel supported, explain what will happen and give you practical options for managing nerves. We can discuss the length of your vows, how much you want to speak, the tone of the ceremony and ways to make the experience feel more comfortable.
Your wedding isn't a performance. It's a moment for you and your partner to commit to each other, surrounded by the people you choose to have there.
8. Can we have a funny wedding ceremony that is still meaningful?
Absolutely. Humour and meaning work beautifully together.
A ceremony can include the funny stories, inside jokes and little quirks that make your relationship special while still honouring the commitment you're making.
The trick is finding the right balance. Your ceremony shouldn't feel like a stand-up routine, but it also doesn't need to be overly formal or sentimental if that isn't your style.
I love the idea of a ceremony that makes your guests laugh, gives them a glimpse into your relationship and leaves everyone feeling connected to the moment.
9. Do we have to write our own vows?
No. Personal vows are optional. You can choose to write your own, use a structure or prompts to help you, or keep your personal promises private.
Australian marriage law requires specific legal wording to be included in the ceremony. Your celebrant will explain what is required and help you decide how to incorporate your personal vows and other elements around it.
The most important thing is that your ceremony reflects what feels right for you both.
10. What are the legal requirements to get married in Victoria?
To legally marry in Victoria, you generally need to meet the legal eligibility requirements, lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage with an authorised celebrant at least one month before the wedding, provide the required identification and supporting documents, and have your marriage solemnised by an authorised celebrant.
You also need two witnesses aged 18 or older to attend the ceremony and sign the marriage documents.
The celebrant will guide you through the paperwork and explain the legal requirements. If you're working to a shorter timeframe, ask as early as possible because an approved shortening of the notice period may be possible in certain circumstances.
For official information, visit the Victorian Births, Deaths and Marriages website.
11. How far in advance should we book a wedding celebrant?
It's worth enquiring as soon as you have a wedding date and venue in mind, particularly if you're marrying on a popular Saturday, during spring or summer, or on a public holiday.
Booking early gives you a better chance of securing your preferred celebrant and leaves plenty of time to develop your ceremony.
If your wedding is coming up soon, don't assume it's too late. Contact me with your date, location and ceremony plans to check availability.
12. Do we need a wedding ceremony rehearsal?
Not every wedding needs a formal rehearsal, it can be helpful if you are nervous or including unique elements into your ceremony.
For a smaller, relaxed wedding, a detailed conversation and clear instructions may be all you need. I'll help you decide what makes sense for your plans.
13. Can we personalise our wedding ceremony if we don't want anything traditional?
Absolutely. Your ceremony doesn't need to follow a traditional format or include customs that don't resonate with you.
You can choose the tone, stories, readings, rituals, music and personal touches that reflect your relationship, while still including the legal elements required for a valid marriage.
You might want something modern, relaxed, intimate, funny, unconventional or deeply reflective. We can work together to create a ceremony that feels intentional and authentic to you.
14. Can you perform an elopement or small wedding ceremony?
If you're planning an elopement or intimate wedding, a celebrant-led ceremony can be a wonderful way to make the occasion meaningful without organising a large event.
You can keep things simple with a small group of loved ones, choose a special location and focus on the commitment you're making to each other.
A legal marriage in Australia still requires an authorised celebrant, the couple and two witnesses to be physically present. Your celebrant can explain the paperwork and help you plan a ceremony that suits your preferred setting and guest numbers.
Get in touch to discuss the options available for your elopement or intimate wedding.
15. Can we include children, family members or cultural traditions in our ceremony?
Yes. Your ceremony can reflect the people, traditions and experiences that are important to you.
Depending on your wishes, we can explore including children, acknowledging family members, incorporating cultural traditions, inviting a loved one to do a reading or adding a symbolic ritual.
We'll discuss what feels meaningful to you both and how to include these elements in a way that feels natural and respectful.
16. What happens when we book you as our wedding celebrant?
The process begins with a conversation about your wedding plans, your relationship and the kind of ceremony you want.
Once your booking is confirmed, we'll work through the preparation, ceremony development and legal requirements together. I'll help you make decisions about the structure, tone and personal elements of your ceremony, explain the paperwork and make sure you know what to expect as the day approaches.
On the wedding day, my role is to lead the ceremony and guide you through the important moments, so you can focus on being present with each other and the people you love.
The exact inclusions and timeline depend on the celebrant package you choose.
17. Why is marriage preparation important if we're already planning our wedding?
Wedding planning focuses on creating a memorable day. Marriage preparation gives you an opportunity to think about the life you're building together after that day.
It can be valuable to talk about your shared values, expectations, communication, how you handle disagreements and what commitment means to each of you.
I believe a wedding ceremony can be more than a beautiful event. It can be a meaningful pause in the busyness of wedding planning , a chance to reflect on why you've chosen each other and what you want your marriage to stand for.
Your relationship is at the heart of the celebration, and I want the ceremony to honour that.
18. How do we know if you're the right celebrant for us?
The right celebrant should feel like someone you can trust with a very personal part of your wedding day.
If you want a ceremony that is thoughtful, warm, relaxed and personal , with room for laughter, emotion and the things that make your relationship unique ......we may be a great fit.
I encourage couples to ask questions, talk openly about their ideas and get a feel for my approach before booking.
You should feel listened to, supported and confident that your ceremony will reflect you.
19. How do we enquire about your availability and book you?
The first step is to get in touch with your wedding date, venue or location, approximate guest numbers and a little information about the ceremony you're imagining.
I'll let you know whether I'm available and explain the next steps, including the service options and pricing that suit your plans.
You don't need to have every detail sorted before enquiring. If you're still working out what you want, that's absolutely fine. We can start with a conversation.
Let's create a ceremony that feels like you.
If you're looking for a wedding celebrant in Melbourne or across Victoria, I'd love to hear what you're planning.
